Barbara J. Leiter

Barbara J. Leiter is a Montreal, Quebec based lawyer specializing in Canadian and American immigration law. Prior to her entrance in the judicial world, she obtained a first diploma from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX). After a first career as professional musician and a second one in the field of real estate, she earned her L.L.B. and B.C.L. from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, in May of 1989.

During her graduate studies, her academic success was as important as her social and extracurricular involvement. At McGill University, she was a member of the Editorial Board of the McGill Law Journal, worked at the McGill Legal Aid Clinic and was a member of the Students' Judiciary Committee.

She became a member of the Barreau du Quebec in 1990, and a member of the New York State Bar in 2002. She sits on the executive of the Quebec chapter of the Immigration Section of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and also is an executive of the Canadian chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She is a member of the Association québécoise des avocats et avocates en droit de l'immigration (AQAADI) promoting active cooperation between its members to improve the practice of immigration law in Quebec. Her involvement in these associations not only allows Me Leiter to integrate all recent modifications affecting immigration laws but also to share her experience in order to improve and optimize its practice. She has been recognized by a Quebec Court as an expert witness in the field of US immigration law. She has taken part in several conferences organized by the Canadian Bar Association as guest speaker. Furthermore, in order to give back to the profession that enables her to help so many different persons, Me Leiter periodically seats on arbitration boards of the Barreau du Québec.  

Sporty and adventurous, Me Leiter trekked in some of the world’s most breathtaking locations, most notably: the Himalayas, the Alps, Patagonia and New Zealand. Me Leiter’s active personality is transposed to her practice through her young and dynamic team alert to new judicial and technological trends to better serve her clientele. The symbiosis between Me Leiter’s experience of over 20 years in the field of immigration and her team’s enthusiasm enables her to satisfy her well diversified clientele.  

Even though her practice is focused on immigration law, she offers several other professional services pertaining to commercial and corporate law as well as other areas of Quebec and Canadian law. As a member of the New York State Bar, she also provides certain services for U.S. immigration, including Green Card applications (Permanent Residence), Petitions for family members, L-1 Visa (executive transfer) and the E-2 Visa (for starting a business in the U.S.).

Freddy BUI-KHAC, LL.B., M.B.M.D.

Maître Freddy Bui-Khac is a young and dynamic attorney based in Montreal. He completed a double major program in law and molecular biotechnology at Sherbrooke University. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) in April 2007 and his Master’s Degree in Molecular Biotechnology and Law (M.B.M.D.) in December 2008. After obtaining his university degrees, he completed the Quebec Bar’s professional training program in May 2008. He became a member of the Barreau du Québec on March 20th, 2009 after completing his mandatory internship under the supervision of Me Barbara J. Leiter. Since then, Me Bui-Khac is a member of the Quebec Association of Immigration Lawyers (AQAADI) and has been primarily practicing as attorney in the field of immigration law within Me Barbara J. Leiter’s law firm. In addition to his duties as attorney, Me Bui-Khac is also the office manager and is involved in the business development of the law firm. He fluently speaks French, English and Vietnamese. His ability to listen and innovative approach provide personalized professional services that insure the highest level of satisfaction of Me Barabra J. Leiter’s diverse clientele.
